Are the people at Astra Zenica that clueless ?

DTC #in
26,000 lawsuits,
the word "fatal" used in side effects and Astra
Zeneca is doing TV ads for Seroquel XR ? Let's be
clear about this product, it's a major drug with
serious side effects for very serious conditions.
Does AZ really believe that people are going to
go into their physician and ask for Seroquel XR
?
There's a reason
why Eli Lilly doesn't do any TV advertising for
Zyprexa and it has nothing to do with continuing
litigation. It has to do with the fact that
Zyprexa is not a product that should be
prescribed a lot because it requires patients to
be closely monitored by their physicians to
ensure they don't gain a lot of weight and become
diabetic. Yet AZ has chosen to do take their most
controversial medication and put it into a DTC ad
with side effects that use the word "fatal".
Maybe they think consumers are that stupid.
According to the FDA people do pay attention to the Fair Balance in drug ads (at least that's what's they want us to believe). Even if I felt I was possibly suffering from bi-polar depression there is no way that I would ever think of asking my doctor about Seroquel given the fact that AZ is fighting over 26,000 lawsuits over the drug.
What's more scary is the thought that AZ might be trying to capitalize on the recent news that most people taking depression medications did just as well on placebos thus maybe they need a stronger product. There are times to do DTC and not do DTC and this is surely one bad idea by a bunch of people who are clueless. Obviously there are not enough people to raise their hands at AZ and say "this is not a good idea".
